IN HOUSE CAPABILITES
As a consultancy we know that product design and development is more than sitting behind a computer screen. This is why we have our own bespoke workshop allowing us to test theories, build prototypes, evaluate samples or even build small batch runs of product.
CAD DESIGN SERVICES
CAD has become somewhat of a mainstay for product development, and we embrace this here at mouse. We have many years of experience in using Solidworks and use it throughout our development process.
3D PRINTING
We don’t 3D print in-house for one simple reason – flexibility.
We work closely with Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) for all our 3D printing requirements.
LASER CUTTING / ETCHING
Our in-house laser facilities allow us to quickly turn around prototypes or small batch runs of two-dimensional products.
SEWING
Our unique experience allows us to develop both hard and soft goods with perfect integration between the two. We run several industrial machines so we can sound out ideas, create samples in the UK or even run small production batches of soft goods.
CNC MACHINING
Our in-house CNC machine allows us to cut parts too large for economical 3D printing.
GRAPHICS
Creating great products relies on great communication. From concept ideation to explaining your brand-new product to your customers, we use the latest visualisation & Adobe Creative Cloud software to generate stunning visuals, logos and technical documentation.
OUR TEAM
OPD was founded by Rich in 2013 to create a bespoke design solution for the outdoor industry. Ben joined in 2020 bringing a wealth of commercial industry experience. We aim is to create a relaxed and open partnership with our clients where discussion of product design goals and business objectives seamlessly mix into the development cycle.
Rich Taylor
Director
Rich is founder and director here at OPD. He has spent 15 years mainly working in the outdoor and leisure industry with forays into packaging and sustainable PPE. When he’s not busy sketching out ideas, he can be found knocking out prototypes on the sewing machine and laser cutter. Away from work he’ll be surfing his sea kayak off Anglesey or bouldering with his kids.
Ben White
Director
Ben is director here at OPD. He has over 20 years of product design and development experience, across a variety of industries. Ben spent 6 years living in Asia working directly with factories to get designs made. He’s also our CAD wizard. Away from the computer, you’ll find him on the river, playing around in his kayak or chasing his kids around the forest on their bikes.
